This pool and waterfall in the Likhubula River within Mulanje Mountain is highly revered as a home of spirits. Its name translates into ‘pool of the elder(s)’. There different accounts relating to the origin of the name. Some say there used to live an old man or woman. Others say only elderly people were allowed to go there.
Archeological evidence (pottery, beads, coins) show that the pool is regarded sacred and was used for rain sacrifices.
